What to do in Topeka?

Kaw River State Park

Kaw River State Park has 76 forested acres on the bank of the Kansas River in West Topeka. It is currently the only free state park in Kansas. Crown Colony Apartments is only two miles from the Kaw River State Park. 

Take a relaxing walk through the park’s oak-hickory forest. The park has a variety of trails for hiking, running, and mountain-biking. Visitors of all levels of experience are encouraged to find the perfect trail for them. 

In remote parts of the park, you might see wildlife such as turkey or deer. During the winter, eagles and other birds regularly visit the Kansas River. 

The Kaw River State Park provides access to the Kansas River for canoes and other small boats. It is important to educate yourself about river safety before entering any river. 

The NOTO Arts & Entertainment District

The arts district in North Topeka was formed in 2011 after residents in the community requested an area focused on cultural arts. The Historic North Topeka (NOTO) Arts & Entertainment District has an eclectic group of locally owned antique shops, art galleries, and delicious food. 

The NOTO Arts & Entertainment District is a non-profit with the goal of improving quality of life in the region by helping the North Topeka arts district. The NOTO Arts Center on N. Kansas Ave is an art gallery and location for classes and events. 

The ARTSConnect First Friday Artwalk brings in over 3,000 visitors each month. The Artwalk is a monthly event celebrating art, music, food in Topeka.

Topeka Zoo

The Topeka Zoo and Conservation Centeris located in Gage Park and is home for over 250 animals. The zoo is an amazing visit for all ages! 

The Butterfly Pavilion, Kansas Carnivores, and Tropical Rainforest are some of the many exhibitions at the zoo. The Topeka Zoo has plenty of big cats including the rare Sumatran tiger. 

The Topeka Zoo opened its largest project Camp Cowabunga in 2018. Camp Cowabunga has three lions, Patas monkeys, African wild dogs, and several other animals in habitats. The exhibit features a center hub with African artifacts including a canoe that visitors can sit in. 

The Topeka Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Brendan Wiley is the current zoo director. 

Rasmussen College (Topeka Campus)

The Topeka campus of Rasmussen College has provided market-relevant education since 2013. The campus is conveniently located in West Topeka near I-70.

Rasmussen College offers Bachelor’s and Associate’s degrees in seven schools of study and 50 programs. Students will benefit from the small class sizes.

Student can enroll online and use the Topeka campus as a support center. The campus has study spaces and computer labs available. The Topeka campus provides a helpful education setting for students. Crown Colony Apartments is a 10-minute bike run from the Rasmussen College – Topeka Campus.

Rasmussen College – Topeka Campus has on-campus nursing classes. The campus has excellent lab space and equipment for nursing programs.
