What to do in Topeka?

Kansas Children's Discovery Center

Beginning in 2011, The Kansas Children’s Discovery Center has served children and families in the community of Topeka. The Discovery Center helps children learn about art, science, and nature through hands-on play. The Discovery Center is in Gage Park, only a 10-minute drive from Mariposa Townhomes.

The children’s museum plans daily programs to deliver even more quality experiences. There are special sections in the museum for infants and toddlers that let their smallest guest explore safely.  The Discovery Center has an outdoor portion that contains a treehouse, pirate ship, garden, and trail.

The Discovery Center is dedicated to providing accessibility to every child and family. Today’s children are tomorrow’s dreamers and leaders.

Brown vs. Board of Education National Historic Site

In 1992, the United States Congress created the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site to memorialize the milestone Supreme Court decision. The historic site contains the Monroe Elementary School, one of the previously segregated schools for African-American children in Topeka.

Guests can walk the halls of the school and learn about the history about Brown v. Board from exbibits in the school. The Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site is an important link in the story about racism in America. The historic site is run by National Park Service.

The Combat Air Museum is a non-profit museum with 42 aircraft and the largest collection of World War I replica aircraft in the Midwest.

The Combat Air Museum is dedicated to educating the community through the perseveration of aircraft and aviation history.
